About Zuccardi Vineyards

Zuccardi began in 1963, when Alberto Zuccardi — an engineer by training, and the son of Italian immigrants who had settled in Mendoza — designed an irrigation system that let vines thrive in Argentina’s high-altitude desert. What started as one family’s solution to a technical problem became one of Argentina’s most respected wine estates, passed from Alberto to his son José, and now shaped by his grandson Sebastián — more than 60 years of Argentine winemaking carried by one family.

Under Sebastián, Zuccardi has spent the last two decades moving uphill — literally. Since the mid-2000s, the family has shifted its focus into the Uco Valley, planting at elevations up to 1,400 meters in search of the cooler nights, poor soils, and dramatic diversity that produce wines of place rather than wines of formula. Their Piedra Infinita vineyard in Paraje Altamira, cleared stone by stone from what was once an unplantable riverbed, has become one of the most closely watched sites in South American wine.

It’s an estate built on the belief that Argentina’s best wines are still being discovered — one hillside, one soil type, one harvest at a time. As Decanter put it in a September 2026 feature on the region:

“Three areas in Mendoza’s Uco Valley are developing their own voice, and producers and geologists are actively debating how best to designate the places where some truly great wines are being made… This is especially true in the sub regions of Gualtallary, Paraje Altamira, and Los Chacayes.” — Decanter, September 14, 2026

Sebastián’s wines — including several poured this evening — come directly from those subregions.

About Sebastián Zuccardi

Sebastián Zuccardi is the third-generation family member, owner, and winemaker at Zuccardi Valle de Uco. He trained as an agricultural engineer before taking the reins of winemaking at his family’s estate in 2005. Where earlier generations of Argentine Malbec leaned rich and oaky, Sebastián has spent his career pursuing the opposite: wines that are fresher, more transparent, and unmistakably tied to the specific patch of ground they came from.

He ferments many of his wines in concrete rather than oak or steel, a choice made not for trend but for neutrality — concrete, he says, gets out of the way and lets the vineyard speak. Working alongside terroir specialist Pedro Parra, he’s spent years mapping the soils of the Uco Valley by hand, separating parcels as small as a few rows based on what’s actually beneath them.

“I believe in the place,” Sebastián has said, “and I try to make wines that express it.” It’s a simple idea, carried out with an unusual amount of rigor — and it’s why Zuccardi has become one of the most talked-about names to come out of Argentina in a generation. At Crimson Lane, he’ll share the passion, precision, and family legacy behind some of South America’s most iconic estate wines.
